Support and troubleshooting

Do not include private information, personal identifiers, confidential text, or screenshots containing sensitive content in a public issue.

Lookup does not return the expected taxon

• Try the complete scientific name when known.
• Review every candidate when the input is ambiguous; Taxon Bridge will not silently guess.
• Confirm the device has a working internet connection for a first lookup.
• Retry later if a naming provider is temporarily unavailable or rate-limited.
• Report the input, expected taxon, interface language, app version, and build without including personal information.

A localized name is unavailable

Taxon Bridge displays sourced common names rather than generating translations. A valid taxon can therefore have no available name in a configured language. Try another language or report a missing source name for investigation.

Look up a name while reading

1. Select a biological name in Safari, Notes, or another iPhone app.
2. Choose Share from the selection menu.
3. Choose Taxon Bridge in the system Share Sheet.
4. Review the sourced names in your configured languages and the scientific name.

Copying a result is optional; the primary flow shows the names directly in the Share Extension.

Taxon Bridge is missing from the Share Sheet

1. Launch Taxon Bridge once.
2. Share selected text or a Merlin Bird ID species page.
3. Scroll through the Share Sheet and choose More.
4. Add Taxon Bridge to the preferred actions and move it near the front if desired.

The extension accepts plain text or one web URL. For Merlin, share the species page itself rather than a screenshot, photograph, or audio recording.

A Merlin species page does not resolve

• Confirm the shared URL begins with https://merlinbirds.org/species/.
• Confirm networking is available.
• Open Taxon Bridge once, then try the Share action again.
• Report the public species-page URL and app build if the problem persists.

Shortcuts actions are missing

Launch Taxon Bridge once, then reopen Shortcuts and choose Add Action → Apps → Taxon Bridge. Version 1 provides Resolve Taxon, Get Taxon Name, and Get Configured Taxon Names.

Offline results

Successful recent lookups can remain available for up to 30 days. An uncached taxon requires networking. Use Settings → Offline data → Clear recent results to delete the lookup cache.

Privacy and deletion

The in-app policy is under Settings → Privacy Policy. Clear recent lookup data under Settings → Offline data, or delete Taxon Bridge to remove its app container according to normal iOS behavior.
